When the Lord Answers You

Key Scripture: Luke 17:11–19
EVERY ONE OF US IS EXPERIENCING A DIFFICULT SEASON
Every one of us is experiencing a difficult moment in one area of our lives or another. However, we must make sure that the trials we go through produce more faith in God rather than hopelessness, despair, or separation from His presence.
Our difficult seasons should not take us away from God. Instead, they should draw us closer to Him and teach us to trust Him even more.
LEARN TO GIVE THANKS
1 Thessalonians 5:18 teaches us to give thanks to God in everything.
Psalm 136 repeatedly instructs us to give thanks to the God of heaven because His lovingkindness endures forever.
Many people may receive what they have asked God for, but only a few will actually return to Him to say, “Thank You.”
There is a big difference between receiving from God and returning to God in thanksgiving.
This is what we see in the story of the ten lepers in Luke 17. All ten cried out to Jesus for mercy, and all ten received their healing. Yet only one came back to give thanks.
This raises an important question:
Where did the other nine go?
They received their miracle, but they failed to return to the One who gave them the miracle.
Thanksgiving is more than simply saying, “Thank You.” It is an acknowledgment of God. It is recognizing Him and giving Him the honour for what He has done.
MAKE THANKSGIVING AN INTENTIONAL ACT
We must make it an intentional act of remembrance to return to the Lord in thanksgiving.
Why?
He is the One who heals.
He is the One who delivers.
He is the One who restores.
He is the One who answers our prayers.
When the Lord does something for you, go back to Him.
Return to Him and give Him thanks.
We should not only know how to ask God:
“Lord, do this for me.”
“Lord, give me that.”
“Lord, give me this.”
We must also learn to ask ourselves:
“What has the Lord done in my life that I have not gone back to Him to say, ‘Thank You,’ for?”
There are things we prayed about in secret that God has already answered, yet we have moved on without intentionally returning to Him in thanksgiving.
DON’T FORGET THE SOURCE OF YOUR BLESSING
Some people receive their breakthrough and, after receiving it, leave the presence of God—sometimes without even realizing that the blessing came from that very source.
Look at blind Bartimaeus in Luke 18. After Jesus restored his sight, Bartimaeus did not simply receive his miracle and disappear. He followed Jesus.
In Acts 3, after the man who had been crippled received his healing at the Beautiful Gate, he entered the temple with Peter and John, walking, leaping, and praising God.
The miracle did not take him away from God. The miracle brought him into God’s presence.
This is how it should be with us.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN GOD ANSWERS YOU?
Sometimes things do not seem to remain permanent in our lives because, when God tests us, we fail to return to Him and say, “Thank You.”
Instead, we become carried away by the very blessings we prayed for.
So, ask yourself:
Where do you go when God answers your heart’s desires?
When God gives you the job, where do you go?
When He gives you healing, where do you go?
When He answers that secret prayer, where do you go?
When the breakthrough finally comes, where do you go?
There is nothing wrong with celebrating. We can celebrate and rejoice with our families and loved ones. But God must come first.
Exodus 34:14 reminds us that we serve a jealous God. Therefore, we must be intentional about putting Him first and giving Him the honour that belongs to Him.
WHEN THE LORD ANSWERS YOU, RETURN TO HIM
Let us become intentional about thanksgiving.
Do not allow the answer to your prayer to make you forget the One who answered it.
When the Lord answers your silent prayers, your hidden prayers, and the things you have cried to Him about in secret, return to Him in thanksgiving.
Do not be like the nine who received but never returned.
Be like the one who came back, fell at the feet of Jesus, and gave Him thanks.
When the Lord answers you, don’t forget to return to Him.
The miracle is not the end of the story.
Your thanksgiving is part of the testimony.
